Ozone (O 3); is an unstable molecule in the stratosphere of the atmosphere consisting of three oxygen atoms having a vital task with the blocking of the sun’s ultraviolet B and C rays. Ozone in this layer is constantly changing. Its disparity varies according to the situation. Even a 1% reduction causes a 10% increase in skin cancers. Living creatures live in the troposphere, 10% of the ozone is found in this layer. In the air we breathe, Nitrogen (78%), oxygen (20, 9%), carbon dioxide (0,034%) and argon (0,9%) gases, which are necessary for the living, are found. As the ozone in the troposphere is at a higher level, it does not exist in the breathing air. Ozone was discovered by Austrian chemist Christian Schönbein in 1840. Ozone, an unstable molecule, is gaseous at room temperature and has a colorless, distinctive odor. It is named as active SUPEROXYGEN as it can be easily transformed into stable molecules in the reaction, the use of medicinal purposes stems from this feature. Triatomic molecule of ozone is converted to diatomic molecules of oxygen and single atomic reactive ozonoid (OR). Ozone gas is generated with the help of devices for medical purposes. When normal air is used, N2O2 (nitrogen dioxide) is formed. Half-life of it is 40 minutes at room temperature. Indeed, it is the production done using with the oxygen cylinders producing 0.05 -100 µg/ml concentrations by determining doses according to the application area.
AREA OF USAGE
Ozone is in the service of humanity on sterilization industry and the food and in the veterinary field for many years. It is used for sterilization in these areas. FDA has given approval of its use in food sterilization in 1982. Ozone was used in the sterilization of water in the 2nd World War in Germany. As it is about 3000 times stronger disinfectant than chlorine, it is used against parasites, spores, fungi and cysts in pool. It is used for prevention of contamination of food (transmission) and shelf-life extension in the livestock sector. It is used in the medical world for 50 years. In Turkey, while previously applied unofficially, it was included in certified education by the Ministry of Health with the regulation issued in 2014; doctors and dentists were given practical training at some universities.
Effects of Ozone:
Events which are the basis of disease in our bodies begins with the domino effect. Inflammatory process begins with insufficient oxygenation of tissues and organs. With the start of this process, acidosis, resulting in the inflammatory reactions, develops in organs. 50-300 cc of blood is taken from the patient, up to 750 cc of blood can be taken in 2 hours. The amount of blood taken daily should not exceed 3 liters. After the suitable doses of ozone obtained by device mixed with blood, must be injected not later than two hours.

The most important side effect is hemolysis. Hemolysis is the release of content formed with the breakdown of red blood cells into the plasma. It is caused by error made in dose adjustments of the treatment. Even at therapeutic doses hemolysis may develop at the rate of 0.4-1, 2%, however, this is a ratio that can be tolerated. At high doses, the ratio may be up to 7%. In patients with chronic renal failure and heart failure, hemolysis can cause serious consequences.
